2026 BMX Rider Evaluations

Saturday and Sunday Sept 20 & 21, 2025 (only 1 day is required)
Red Deer BMX
Purpose
The Rider Evaluation provides Alberta BMX coaching staff with an opportunity to conduct a formal, skills-based assessment of athletes interested in joining the 2026 Alberta Provincial Team. By hosting this event in the fall, evaluations can be completed before winter weather limits outdoor training opportunities. Please note: The formal application process for the 2026 team (for ages 11-2nd year Junior) will open in the new year, following approval of the program and budget by the Alberta Bicycle Association.
Background
The Alberta Provincial BMX Team’s mission is to support and guide the development of riders, with the long-term objective of preparing and advancing athletes to the Canadian National BMX Team. The evaluation process is a key step in team selection. Designed by Provincial Team Head Coach Kiran Kawa and first implemented in 2025, this process allows coaching staff to:
• Gauge the number of riders interested in the 2026 Alberta Provincial Team
• Assess riders’ technical skills and overall readiness
• Evaluate athletes’ level of commitment to the sport of BMX
Invited Riders
•All Athletes (Expert, aged 12 - 2nd Year Junior) who feel they would be a good fit for the BMX Team Alberta Program
•All riders currently on the Alberta High Performance and Competition Development Teams who wish to apply for the 2026 Alberta Provincial Team are expected to attend. Current team members, who are unable to attend the evaluation process, must contact Head Coach Kiran Kawa.
•Alberta Development Team riders (age 12-13) who wish to be considered for the Comp Dev Team must attend the evaluation.
Group Times
Saturday and Sunday (Riders are only required to do one session)
Time:
Male: 10:00 to 2:30
Female: 3:00 to 6:00
Based on rider age, group size, and skill level, we may create two male groups and one or two female groups. Riders will be notified of their specific time slot on Friday, September 19. Each assigned group will complete their evaluation within the designated timeframe. Adequate time has been allocated to ensure that all riders are able to complete their evaluations comfortably, regardless of group placement.
