  • The Grands, which also serve as the Series Final

Alberta BMX Cup Series

Series Format

To qualify for a final Alberta BMX Cup series standing, riders must:
  • Compete in a minimum of 4 of the 9 total series races, plus the Grands
  • All series races, including the Grands, are single-points races
  • Final series standings are calculated using:
    • The rider’s best 4 of 9 series finishes, plus points earned at the Grands
  • Ties on total points are broken by results at the Grands

Series Awards

  • Plates numbered P1 through P8 are awarded to the top eight (8) riders in each class based on total series points
  • Additional awards may be presented at the discretion of the Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA)

Rider Upgrades

  • If a rider upgrades ability class during the season, all earned points transfer to the new class
  • Example:
    • A Novice Girl with 200 points who upgrades to Expert begins her Expert season with 200 points

Combined Classes

When classes are combined due to low participation (by ability or age):
  • Riders receive points based on the class they are registered in
  • Points are awarded based on how the rider would have placed within their own class
  • Race-day awards are still presented based on the combined class results

Examples

Example 1 – Combined Ability
  • One 8 Novice Male is combined with 8 Intermediate Male
  • Rider finishes 2nd overall
  • Receives:
    • 2nd place award for the race
    • 1st place Novice points toward the 8 Novice Male series ranking

Example 2 – Combined Age

  • One 7 Expert Female is combined with 8 Expert Female
  • Rider finishes 3rd overall
  • Receives:
    • 3rd place award for the race
    • 1st place Expert points toward the 7 Expert Female series ranking

BMX District Racing (Alberta District Points)

The Alberta District Points system is a track-level racing series administered by the Alberta Bicycle Association and is separate from the Alberta BMX Cup.
District Structure
  • All Alberta tracks are considered part of one district
  • Tracks may host any number of races per week
  • Cancelled races must have make-ups advertised at least two weeks in advance
  • Multi-Point Races must be submitted to the ABA for approval and advertised two weeks in advance

Season Dates

  • District points accumulate from January 1 to December 31

Race Scale

  • All district races are single-points races
  • Alberta BMX Cup races award double district points

Alberta District Point Awards

  • Awards are presented to the top 10 overall racers
  • Includes Male and Female riders across all amateur ability categories
  • Awards are presented at the first Alberta Provincial race of the following season

District Points Scale

Alberta BMX Cup Races & District Points

  2. If still tied, Alberta BMX Cup Final performance breaks the tie
    • Example: 3rd place beats 5th place
