2009 Bow 80 Nationals – Off the Wagon!!

The only rain in a month decided to drop during the 8th running of the Bow 80. A course record would not be set that day. Still a large contingent of racers showed up, with a 172 starters, despite the weather. Three racers were followed by another group of five according to early reports. Temperatures dropped and weather became worse as riders rose up Jumping Pound, volunteers started campfires and were joined by riders. As these conditions were reported to Station Flats, organizers decided that safety was now the concern. With 46 riders past the Dawson cutoff zone, the decision to stop the following riders was made and a ten year old plan was unfortunately used. All of the following riders were greeted by a bus and rovers to pick them up and return them to Station Flats. Now we waited, but not for long... Cory Wallace, racing his second Bow 80, came in with a time of 4:40:02 and picked up his second consecutive Gold Belt buckle as the King of Kananaskis. Cory was followed was followed closed by Brian Cooke and then Bow Cycle’s own Brian Bain. Alana Heise, was the sole women finisher and picked up her Queen of Kananaskis buckle.
