Attention all Alberta Cup Mountain Bike racers;
New for the 2013 season,
all riders purchasing single-event licenses at Alberta Cup Provincial
Sanctioned Cross-Country or Downhill races must race in a corresponding Citizen
Class category. Citizen Class categories will be assigned to racers based on
their age and gender. The addition of
Citizen Class categories to Alberta Cup XC and DH races will be enforced across
each race in the series, effective at the start of the 2013 season.
Citizen Class Categories
All riders purchasing a single-event license are
required to race in the Citizen Class race category corresponding to their age
and gender. Citizen Class race categories will be split into the below outlined
age/gender groups:

All male single event license holders aged 18 and under in the current calendar year |
U19 Citizen Women |
All female single event license holders aged 18 and under in the current calendar year |
19 to 29 Citizen Men |
All male single event license holders aged 19 to 29 in the current calendar year |
19 to 29 Citizen Women |
All female single event license holders aged 19 to 29 in the current calendar year |
30+ Citizen Men |
All male single event license holders aged 30 and over in the current calendar year |
30+ Citizen Women |
All female single event license holders aged 30 and over in the current calendar year |
Rules & Regulations
- Citizen Class racers will not qualify for points in the Alberta Cup Provincial Series. Names & Results will not be included in the yearly tally for final standings in the Alberta Cup XC and DH Series’ respectively
- Citizen Class riders may not use results towards eventual upgrade in ability upon purchase of a full racing license
- Based on rider attendance, the organizer may further divide the U19 and 30+ Citizen categories at their discretion. For example, in the presence of a large youth Citizen field, categories may be sub-divided into “Junior Citizen, U17 Citizen and U15 Citizen”. Likewise in the presence of a large 30+ Citizen field, the field could be sub-divided into categories such as “30-39 Citizen and 40+ Citizen”.
*Note: Citizen Class Race Categories will not be enforced in Western National Marathon Series races, nor will they be enforced in non-Alberta Cup mountain bike races. This change will only effect Cross-Country Mountain Bike and Downhill Mountain Bike disciplines.
