Argyll Velodrome Racing Academy
Inspire. Achieve.
Exceed
The Argyll Velodrome Racing Academy (AVRA) offers a range of high performance training and development programs. These programs are based on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model; a Sport Canada initiative that focuses on athlete development. The objective with these programs is to tailor training to each athlete’s physical capacity, based on their individual development stage. Programs for all stages of athletes will be available, but the academy’s focus will be on the athletes in the Train to Compete and Learn to Win stage of the LTAD. A select group of athletes will be in the Train to Win program.
As well, AVRA offers training programs and resources for athletes who are not on a national team but want to improve their performance at the provincial and Canadian national levels. Programs can also be tailored for masters athletes to prepare for national and international competitions.
Through these programs, we are able to provide age, and maturational age appropriate training to optimally prepare athletes of all ages. Training will build the physical, technical, tactical and mental capacities required for success in cycling. Younger athletes move from the Development Program to the Performance Development Program over a number of years. Those with the physical, technical, tactical and mental capacities will be encouraged to join the high performance development program. The high performance development program will build on earlier preparation, adding another level of training to develop the necessary skills (technical, tactical, and mental) and fitness to become successful in international events and Olympic hopefuls.
Cyclists of all ages, experience and ability level can be catered for. If you feel your ability level, and/or work/family commitments prevents you from signing up for one of AVRA’s program levels, please contact AVRA so that we can you the program that best suits your needs.
